Abdominal ultrasound scan helps in diagnosing medical conditions and problems in liver, gallbladder, kidneys, Aorta, urinary bladder and pancreas.

This type of ultrasound is focused on visualizing the organs and structures located in the upper part of the abdomen such as in liver, gall bladder, kidneys, Aorta, urinary bladder and pancreas.

Some of the common health issues that may require this type of ultrasound scan are:

  • Liver problems such as fatty liver, liver cysts, liver mass, liver cirrhosis.
  • Gallbladder stones, gall bladder infections, gall bladder tumors
  • Pancreatic infections, cysts, tumors and pancreatic duct stones.
  • Kidney diseases like Kidney stones, cysts, infections, tumors.
  • Spleen size, shape and cysts.
  • Urinary bladder infections, stones and tumors.
  • Abdominal aorta blood flow, aneurysms and other vascular problems.

While you may not always need a referral from your GP to attend, for certain cases referral letter is needed to ensure that the appropriate examination is conducted based on your specific medical needs.
 

Preparation before exam:

You must not drink or anything 8 hours before your ultrasound.

Please wear relaxed and comfortable clothes at the time of the ultrasound.

Expectations During Ultrasound examination:

Our sonographers will guide you about the exam and answer your queries.

The examination requires you to lay down on your back on the examination couch.

The sonographer will apply warm sterile gel to the skin of your abdomen. The gel helps in transmission of sound waves from the machine to body and helps in visualizing the body structures.

Transducer or probe will be placed on your body and body parts will be scanned through the transducer.

Time

Abdominal ultrasound will take approximately 15-30 minutes

After a thorough examination of the ultrasound images by our Consultant Radiologist, expect the report to reach your GP within 2 working days from the date of your scan.
