Anti–cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) is antibodies which elevated level can indicates rheumatoid arthritis.
Rheumatoid factors (RF) are proteins produced by the immune system. Under normal circumstances, the immune system generates antibodies to combat germs and infections. However, rheumatoid factors are a type of antibody that can mistakenly target and attack healthy cells and tissues. This misdirected immune response results in an autoimmune disorder.Â
Elevated RF is common in patients with rheumatic diseases, including Sjogren syndrome, and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) but these elevations are also seen in non-rheumatic illnesses, particularly chronic infections including hepatitis C and tuberculosis. Sarcoidosis and certain cancers, such as primary sclerosing cholangitis, can also lead to increased RF. Therefore, it is the best for you to consult with your Rheumatologist to discuss the results and address any questions you may want to clarify.
Â
High uric acid or hyperuricemia will lead to formation of sharp crystals and these crystals can deposit in joints and cause gout. Formation of crystals in kidneys will lead to formation of kidney stones.Â
The Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate (ESR) blood test is a common and simple test used to detect inflammation in the body, which often presents as pain and swelling. ESR measures the rate at which red blood cells (erythrocytes) settle at the bottom of a test tube over a specified period. People with inflammatory conditions such as infections, cancer, or autoimmune disorders increased presence of certain proteins in the blood, causing red blood cells to clump together and settle more quickly.
