Testes Ultrasound

Testicular ultrasound or scrotum ultrasound  is a type of ultrasound that used high frequency sound waves to scan and see testes, epididymis and surrounding structures. It is a painless and non invasive technique performed by our skilled sonographers at Sana clinic Dublin.

Who needs testes Ultrasound ?

Here are some for the common reasons why a testes ultrasound is needed:

  1. Scrotal pain: When a patient suffers from continuous and persistent testes pain, testes ultrasound is indicated in this case to see the causes of testes pain such as testes torsion , infection, inflammation and other causes
  2. Testes lump/Mass: Whenever a person experience or feels any lump or mass in either of testes, clinician advised a testes ultrasound scan to see the nature and etiology of the mass or lump.
  3. Infertility Scan: In case of male infertility and decreased sperm count, a testes ultrasound is usually advised to see causes of infertility such as varicocele, testicular atrophy etc
  4. Assessment of blood flow: Testes scan aided by doppler studies  can help detecting normal blood to testes.

How it is Performed?

Testes ultrasound is a non invasive medical imaging procedure. Patient is asked to lie on couch. Consent is taken and patient is asked to expose the scrotal area.

Ultrasound gel is applied on the skin of testes and probe is moved on the testes. Images are seen and saved on monitor for radiologists to interpret the scan. Consultant radiologists then prepare the final report.

Timing of scan

A standard testes ultrasound time usually takes about 15-30 minutes.

Preparation before Scan?

  1. Wear comfortable clothes that allows easy access to your scrotal and testes area.
  2. It is good to maintain the personal hygiene by cleaning the scrotal area before ultrasound scan.
  3. Remove any below waist jewelry or ornaments if you wear any.

After a thorough examination of the ultrasound images by our Consultant Radiologist, expect the report to reach your GP within 2 working days from the date of your scan.
